You will likely need to fill your water every 2-7 days. If you are going to be away from your home on vacation then you want to unplug your fountain as chances are you will come home to a dry, damaged pump.

Your indoor fountain pump can also overheat if it is not kept completely submerged in water.

Replacing the water once per month will also naturally remove the possibility of algae growing. Algae grows more in the sun, so if you can, place your fountain away from direct sunlight for another way to avoid the growth of algae.

Calcium Control:

Calcium deposits and build up can occur and greatly ruin the appearance of your fountain. The prevent this from happening, you can use a chemical like Lime-A-Way.
