Here is How To Maintain Indoor Water Fountains:

Keep the pump covered:

Of all of the indoor water fountains maintenance tips, this one is likely the most important as it can cause the most damage to your fountain.

One thing that is really important is to take care of the pumps to avoid burning because they get dry. Pumps are made to be underwater, so make sure you keep it completely underwater.

While fountains do recycle water and continue to pump the same water over and over, water will evaporate, lowering the level of the water. Keep a close on how much water is in your fountain to prevent burning out the pump.

You will likely need to fill your water every 2-7 days. If you are going to be away from your home on vacation then you want to unplug your fountain as chances are you will come home to a dry, damaged pump.

Your indoor fountain pump can also overheat if it is not kept completely submerged in water.

Cleaning your fountain:

Water is known as a clean source. It is, but the air can be a dirty place and can contaminate your water. It’s important that you replace your water and completely clean the bowl and rocks every 1-3 months to make sure you have an optimally functioning indoor fountain.

Algae Control:

Algae can also grow and clog your pump. It is recommended that you use an all natural algaecide to prevent the growth of algae in your fountain. Replacing the water once per month will also naturally remove the possibility of algae growing. Algae grows more in the sun, so if you can, place your fountain away from direct sunlight for another way to avoid the growth of algae.

Calcium Control:

Calcium deposits and build up can occur and greatly ruin the appearance of your fountain. The prevent this from happening, you can use a chemical like Lime-A-Way. However, please note that you cannot use Lime-A-Way on bronze, slate, or painted wood. A good substitution is a mineral buildup water treatment that can be found at pool stores, or online.

While there are many things that you can do to keep your fountain clean and functioning, the maintenance of the fountain is low. You can honestly set up your fountain and mostly forget about it until you need to replace the water or to clean it.
